Fulton County Real Estate
Fulton County is the most populous county in all of Georgia, with an estimated population of over 984,000 permanent residents. It was formed out of the western half of DeKalb County and was founded on December 20, 1853. The majority of the city of Atlanta falls within Fulton County territory, which encompasses a total area of approximately 534 square miles.
Fulton County took its name from Hamilton Fulton, a British civil engineer and surveyor of the Western and Atlantic Railroad during the 1800’s. In an effort to save money during the Great Depression, Fulton County absorbed the nearby counties of Milton, Campbell, and parts of Cobb, giving it the long shape it has today. The Chattahoochee River, which runs from the northeast to the southwest forms a big part of Fulton County’s borders.
Today, Fulton County is a community where residents get to enjoy world-class sports, plenty of opportunities for entertainment and recreation, exceptional schools, and a thriving arts, culture, and music scene.
