Living in Brookhaven, GA

Bounded by Dunwoody to the north, Chamblee to the east, North Druid Hills to the south, and the cities of Sandy Springs and Atlanta to the west, the city of Brookhaven is one of Georgia’s newest cities, which was incorporated recently in 2012. Once the site where affluent Atlanta residents built their summer cottages, Brookhaven became one of the first planned communities designed around a golf course. That golf course eventually became the Capital City Country Club and is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places as part of Historic Brookhaven. Today, Brookhaven offers a mix of the old and the new, with picturesque historic neighborhoods blending in with a thriving urban landscape.

The Capital City Country Club originally opened in 1912 as the Brookhaven Country Club with a nine-hole golf course designed by Herbert Barker. The club was then bought by Atlanta’s Capital City Club in 1915, and the golf course was expanded from nine to 18 holes, with a clubhouse designed by Preston Stevens that was constructed in 1928. The country club and its neighborhood of Historic Brookhaven are considered historic landmarks of the city, and have been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
